la Dame aux chimpanzés…

Jane Goodall has just been made a member of the Légion d’Honneur in recognition of her contribution to conservation. The primatologist is best known for her forty-five year study of chimpanzees in Tanzania. It was Jane who discovered that chimpanzees use tools and cooperated while hunting. We now know how close they are genetically to humans and her habit of naming them instead of giving them a number was also a new idea. She has set up the Jane Goodall Institute to further her conservation work.
