Equinoctial Earth Day…

…is today. It is celebrated on the day of the vernal equinox, which this year takes place at 18.26 GMT in the Northern Hemisphere. This is a day when differences should be forgotten, a day of the renewal of nature. A day to reflect on how precious this Earth is. The vernal equinox marks the beginning of spring. Today is also Ostara one of the sabbata of the pagan wheel of the year.

In mythology, Isis revives Osiris, who then returns from the Underworld to bring fertility to the land.

Three years ago today Iraq was invaded by Britain and America. The country is now in the grip of a tragic civil war that is costing many human lives every day. On Saturday hundreds of thousands of people worldwide took to the streets to demonstrate against the war. There has been much talk recently of the Iran crisis also turning into a war.

Let’s hope that one man’s prayers do not come true. For the sake of this precious Earth we all share let peace and sanity prevail and the forces of ignorance and darkness be banished. That is the deeper meaning of this sacred day.
